Rajshri Thakur, best remembered for her role as the dusky Saloni
fighting her way through a society biased against dark complexioned
girls, is gearing up to to make a comeback to TV.
She will be playing queen Jaywantabai, King Uday’s Singh’s wife and
mother of Maharana Pratap in the upcoming historical show by the same
name.
Says Rajshri, “I have always had a fascination for historicals. I was a
good history student. I recently did a Marathi telefilm based on
Shivaji and Shahaji, in which I played Shivaji’s wife. When the offer
for Maharana... came to me, I was excited. Jaywantabai, the character I
essay, is the biological mother of Maharana Pratap and a strong
character. She is the one who moulded him as a warrior as Uday Singh did
not take any interest.”
History has it that Uday Singh had 19 wives! “Jaywantabai had to deal
with all of them. Her character has different shades,” smiles Rajshri
who after Saat Phere was seen only in two shows, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo and Bidaai.
