Nach Baliye Shriman v/s Shrimati – High on giggles, low on appeal

Yes, the TRPs of this extension mini-series hot on the heels of Nach Baliye may be high, but it is not as fun as its predecessor, in spite of some well honed dance moves

First there was Nach Baliye 5. Now there is Nach Baliye Shriman v/s Shrimati. The three weekend-long dance reality show is all fun and games, with lots of masti and mazaak, most of it seemingly carefully choreographed and occasionally boring. Of course, some of our favourite jodis are back – Neelu-Arvind, Shefali-Parag, Ravi-Sargun, Karan Nisha, Rahul-Dimpy et al – along with two of the judges from the original show: Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Terence Lewis, this time joined by choreographer-director Farah Khan. The couples, who demonstrated their togetherness and love-shuv so cutely for so many weeks now are pitted against each other. And to add tadka and masti to their banter and faux fights are the anchors, the long-legged Aishwarya Sakhuja and the oh-cho-chweet Karan Wahi.
But there has already been a drop-out. Nach Baliye 5 winners Jay Bhanushali and wifey Mahhi Vij have decided to leave the show, since both of them are having health problems – she has viral fever and he has a back injury; is it because they already won the original show and cannot possibly nab this trophy as well, we had to wonder!
Be that as it may, we are honestly more charmed by Shilpa and her wardrobe choices, Terence’s hairdos and Farah’s acerbic comments than we are by the dance. But with two weeks to go, there is a fair chance we will change our collective mind on this one. Wait and watch…
